Is it Possible to Kill Obamacare?

iF you are one of the 49% that voted against Obama in the recent election, you may discouraged siimply because you have a pretty good sense of what is coming. Obama is only one issue of concern. This administration intends to continue to unbridled spending of the first four years, created more debt that our great grandchildren will be unable to bear.

Joseph Farah, founder, editor and chief executive officer of WND (America’s Independent News Network) an answer to our question. This is what he wrote,

“House Republicans alone have it in their power to kill Obamacare, cut $1 trillion in borrowing and spending and start the nation’s return to constitutionally limited government with one vote.

Click here to learn more about the best way to do this

That vote, he says, is a rejection of raising the debt limit – thereby denying Obama the funds he needs for Obamacare and “a thousand other programs that are wasteful, unconstitutional, immoral and about to take the country off the fiscal cliff.”

Is there a chance Republicans will do it?

‘It will happen only if Americans rise up in big numbers and demand it of them,’ he says. ‘Republicans have it in their power. They only need an injection of courage.’

That’s where the “No More Red Ink” campaign comes in – a program launched by Farah in January 2011 to persuade the new Republican-controlled House to freeze the debt limit thereby dramatically slashing spending and effectively balancing the budget overnight.

“Many people responded to this plan over the last two years, but not enough,” said Farah. “But, quite honestly, this is the only game left in town. Republicans and conservatives can watch their country go down the drain slowly over the next four years, or they can take action and demand that Republicans use the power they have and live up to their own rhetoric by stopping the borrowing madness right now.”

The problem is, Farah says, that the House Republican leadership is afraid of the media – afraid of how such a radical action will be portrayed and perceived. They’re also afraid it will create more dislocation and the terminations of hundreds of thousands of government workers in Washington.

“When I think about the risks our founders took 246 years ago and compare that with the timidity of our elected officials today, it’s enough to make me sick,” Farah said. “We need to upset the applecart. We need to stop business as usual in Washington. We need to get on offense. We need to start taking some risks. We need to challenge the status quo. We need to do all of this because borrowing more money is simply unsustainable, immoral and catastrophic to the future of our country. It’s time to put Republicans to the test: Are they men or are they mice? Do they really believe in constitutionally limited government or don’t they? If we cannot persuade them to do the right thing, then, frankly, this experiment known as the United States of America is already over.”

I believe we have one more shot to save AmericaSo far House Republicans have been flooded with more than 1.5 million letters calling on them to freeze borrowing through the “No More Red Ink” campaign.

Farah says a few million more right now could make all the difference – and that”s what the “No More Red Ink” campaign is all about.

“It’s got new life after the election,” Farah said. “People are realizing this is the only game left in town. If we want to stop Obama, if we want to stop the crazy borrowing, if we want to stop Obamacare, if we want to stop the insane spending, we need to give the Republicans a backbone injection.”

School censors child’s Veterans Day poem

A first-graer was all set to read a poem she wrote for her school’s Veterans day tribute earlier this month. You will find it hard to believe what followed as reported by Noel Sheppard, the Associate Editor of NewsBuster reported.

(NEWSBUSTERS) When the word “God” becomes inappropriate in public schools, America really has ceased to exist.

Consider the story of a first-grade girl in West Marion, North Carolina, who had the word “God” stripped from a poem she wrote and was going to read at her school’s Veterans Day assembly earlier this month.

The poem honored her two grandfathers who served during the Vietnam War.

“He prayed to God for peace,” she wrote of one of them. “He prayed to God for strength.”

Unfortunately, a parent found out about this, and complained to the school district.

At a McDowell County Board of Education meeting last week, employee Chris Greene said, “We had one parent concerned with the use of the word God in this program. This parent did not want the word God mentioned anywhere in the program. When the demand from this person was heard, the rights of another stopped. It did so by hushing the voice of a six-year-old girl.”

“I believe that this little girl’s rights were violated,” Greene continued, “and that those who worked so hard to prepare this program should receive an apology.”

“We need to keep in mind what was our country founded on,” said McDowell County resident Esther Dollarhyde. “It was founded on God and Jesus Christ, and our veterans went out and fought for us so we would have a free country, but if we aren’t allowed to honor them the way that the children want to then America is getting lost.”

School Board member Lynn Greene told McDowell News, “My understanding on the law is a teacher cannot promote any certain religion, but when it comes to students voicing their opinion or expressing themselves in a poem we pretty much have to give some leeway. To me this whole thing is a violation of that child’s rights. Nobody forced her to write the poem, that was her part of the program. She was asked to write a poem about veterans and she did. My personal opinion is that her rights were violated.”

After fully examining the issue during the BOE meeting, President and Chief Executive Officer Ken Paulson stated the school did in fact have the right to remove the word “God” from the child’s poem.

“Courts have consistently held up the rights for students to express themselves unless their speech is disruptive to the school,” stated Paulson according to McDowell News. “When the little girl wrote the poem and included a reference to God she had every right to do that. The First Amendment protects all Americans. She had every right to mention God, (but) that dynamic changed when they asked her to read it at an assembly.”

Paulson said that because the students were a captive audience – they were at a mandatory assembly with no place else to go if they didn’t want to attend – administrators had the right to remove the word “God.”

“Courts have found that religious references at school-sponsored events generally run afoul of the First Amendment,” said Paulson. “When a public school knows there’s going to be a reference to religion then there is a problem and they have to address it. The reason for these restrictions is to prevent the government from endorsing a specific faith or religion. So public schools have to steer clear of religious references.”

Fox News contacted the parents of the student in question for comment, but they declined.

Todd Starnes reported Thursday that across the community people are alarmed by what happened and are asking questions.

“I am outraged that a school would deny a six year old child her First Amendment rights — especially during an assembly to honor our nation’s veterans,” Trudy Pascoe told Starnes. “It is unacceptable for schools to continue to deny students rights because of their Christian viewpoint.”

Scott Hagaman, senior pastor of Marion’s First Baptist Church, told Starnes, “I don’t think there’s anywhere in the country where you can hide from these issues — with the culture changing so quickly,”

Sad but true.

Editorial Note: Let me see if I have this right. In our schools we can teach students about the wonders of Islam, and don’t give me that drivel that we do this only in a historical context.  We can teach about every alternative life style known to man. We can provide counseling for a pregnant minor, help her arrange for an abortion without ever notifying her parents. We can explain the use of and then distribute every form of birth control, again with parental involvement. And then a little six year old comes along, writes a poem which contains the word GOD, and all hell breaks loose – every pun intended.

In spite of insane people that denies her that right, she may one day call on God at test time,  or when sick, or when faced with a tragedy, or when seeking counsel, or when simply wanting to gives thanks to her creator who gave her life. And for those who deny her, they must feel good about silencing another tiny voice in order for their ignorance and frankly hatred for the idea of a God they deny exist? Yes, I understand that crowd will be quick to help me understand that she has a right to do whatever she wants in private, but not in a public classroom for six year olds. How accomplished they must feel that they have made it impossible for any other human being to be enlightened, encouraged and moved by the simplicity of this child’s little poem.

We have come to the place where the insane have taken over the asylum.

Social Security Name Change

Pay attention to your next Social Security income, whether you get a check or an electronic deposit. Take note what it is now called!

Social Security is now called “FEDERAL BENEFIT PAYMENT”/ENTITLEMENT!

I’ll be part of the one percent to forward this.

I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you.

Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it.

The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a “Federal Benefit Payment.”

This isn’t a benefit – its earned income!

Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too.

It totaled 15% of our income before taxes.

If you averaged $30K per year over your working life, that’s close to $180,000 invested in Social Security.

If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in social security ($375/month, including both your and your employer’s contributions) at a meager 1% interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you’d have more than $1.3+ million dollars saved! This is your personal investment.

Upon retirement, if you took out only 3% per year, you’d receive $39,318 per year, or $3,277 per month.

That’s almost three times more than today’s average Social Security benefit of $1,230 per month, according to the Social Security Administration (Google it – it’s a fact).

And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you’re 98 if you retire at age 65)!

I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk interest-earning accounts.

Instead, the folks in Washington pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madoff ever did.

They took our money and used it elsewhere. They “forgot” that it was OUR money they were taking.

They didn’t have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them.

And they didn’t pay interest on the debt they assumed.

And recently, they’ve told us that the money won’t support us for very much longer.

But is it our fault they misused our investments?

And now, to add insult to injury, they’re calling it a “benefit,” as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.

Just because they “borrowed” the money, doesn’t mean that our investments were a charity!

Let’s take a stand.

We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare.

Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government –

Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going, for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it.

Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.

22 Signs That Voter Fraud Is Wildly Out Of Control And The Election Was A Sham

By Michael, on November 13th, 2012

After what we have seen this November, how is any American ever supposed to trust the integrity of our elections ever again?  There were over 70,000 reports of voting problems on election day, and there are numerous eyewitnesses that claim that they saw voting machines change votes for one candidate to another candidate right in front of their eyes.  In several of the swing states there were counties where the number of registered voters exceeded the total voting age population by a very wide margin.  How in the world does that happen?  Some of the vote totals that were reported in some of the most important swing states were completely and totally absurd, and yet we are just supposed to accept them on blind faith without ever being able to ask any questions.  Of course the Romney campaign has already totally given up, so it isn’t as if there is any chance that the results of the presidential election could be overturned anyhow.  But if massive election fraud did take place and nobody is held accountable, what kind of message will that send for the future?  Will we ever be able to have faith in the integrity of our elections ever again?

The following are 22 signs that voter fraud is wildly out of control and the election was a sham…

#1 According to the Election Protection Coalition, voters across the United States reported more than 70,000 voting problems by 5 PM Eastern time on election day.

#2 There were 59 voting divisions in the city of Philadelphia where Mitt Romney did not receive a single vote.  In those voting divisions, the combined vote total was 19,605 for Barack Obama and 0 for Mitt Romney.

#3 The overall voter turnout rate in Philadelphia was only about 60 percent.  But in the areas of Philadelphia where Republican poll watchers were illegally removed, the voter turnout rate was over 90% and Obama received over 99% of the vote.  Officials in Philadelphia have already ruled out an investigation.

#4 According to WND, one poll watcher in Pennsylvania actually claims that he witnessed voting machine software repeatedly switch votes from Mitt Romney to Barack Obama…

It was in Upper Macungie Township, near Allentown, Pa., where an auditor, Robert Ashcroft, was dispatched by Republicans to monitor the vote on Election Day. He said the software he observed would “change the selection back to default – to Obama.”

He said that happened in about 5 percent to 10 percent of the votes.

He said the changes appeared to have been made by a software program.

Ashcroft said the format for computer programming has a default status, and in this case it appeared to be designating a vote for Obama each time it went to default.

#5 Somehow Mitt Romney won 55 out of the 67 counties in the state of Pennsylvania and still managed to lose the entire state by a wide margin because of the absurd vote totals that Obama ran up in the urban areas.

#6 Barack Obama received more than 98 percent of the vote in 10 out of the 50 wards in the city of Chicago.

#7 Prior to the election, voters in the states of Nevada, North Carolina, Texas and Ohio all reported that voting machines were switching their votes for Romney over to Obama.

#8 There were more than 50 precincts in Cuyahoga County, Ohio where Mitt Romney received 2 votes or less.

#9 There were more than 100 precincts in Cuyahoga County, Ohio where Barack Obama received more than 99 times the votes that Mitt Romney did.

#10 Barack Obama also received more than 99% of the vote in a number of very important precincts down in Broward County, Florida.

#11 Wood County, Ohio (which Obama won) has a voting age population of 98,213, but somehow 106,258 voters were registered to vote on election day.

#12 Ten counties in the swing state of Colorado have a voter registration rate of more than 100%.

#13 Barack Obama did not win in a single state that absolutely requires a photo I.D. in order to vote.

#14 In Ohio, two election judges were caught allowing unregistered voters to cast ballots.

#15 Many Ohio voters that showed up at the polls on election day were surprised when they were informed that they had already voted.

#16 In fact, there were reports all over the nation of people being unable to vote because records showed that they had already voted.

#17 According to U.S. Representative Allen West, there were numerous “voting irregularities” in St. Lucie County, Florida on election day…

“The thing that spurred our curiosity in our race was the fact that at 1 o’clock in the morning on Election Night, all of a sudden there was a 4,000-vote swing that took me from being ahead to put the lead into my opponent’s hands.”

#18 In Wisconsin, there were allegations that Obama voters were actually being bussed in from out of state

The Democrats stationed a self described “BIG Chicago pro bono attorney” as one of their two observers at this small polling place. He remained at the polling place from 7:00 a.m. until well after 8:p.m. …..A high priced CHICAGO attorney, sitting in a Sheboygan WISCONSIN polling place, observing wards comprised of 1500 voters? …. WHY???
Why would someone from Chicago be observing in Sheboygan Wisconsin? And WHY at such a small polling place? Finally, isn’t it interesting that this would occur at the VERY polling place in which all of the above described events ALSO occurred? AGAIN WHY WOULD A CHICAGO ATTORNEY BE OBSERVING AN ELECTION POLLING PLACE WITH FEWER THAN 1500 VOTERS IN IT, IN SHEBOYGAN WISCONSIN? Of all the places where there has been suspected voting irregularities, and OUTRIGHT FRAUD throughout the ENTIRE United States, WHY HERE? WHY SHEBOYGAN? WHY THIS SMALL WARD?

This lawyer spent the day running in and out making, and taking calls, which coincidentally then coincided with influxes of groups of individuals by the van and bus loads, coming in to register, AND VOTE, using what appeared to be copied Allient energy bills. These individuals often did not have photo I.D.’s, could not remember their own addresses without looking at the paper, and became easily tripped, confused and annoyed when questioned.

Many of these same individuals, just so happened to be dressed in/wearing CHICAGO BEARS apparel, and whom openly discussed “catching busses back to Chicago” with each other, with poll workers, via their cell phones in the lobby area just outside the polling place, as well as in the parking lot, both before and AFTER registering and voting.

One woman was dressed head to toe in CHICAGO BEARS apparel including perfectly manicured BEARS fake fingernails!

She complained because registering was taking too long and she had to hurry up to catch her bus back to Chicago.

We have photos of these people in vehicles with plates from different states, photos of them leaving the polls, and other irregularities.

#19 Prior to election day, an Obama for America staffer was caught on video trying to help someone register to vote in more than one state.

#20 It is being alleged that unions in Nevada have been registering illegal immigrants and pressuring them to vote.

#21 According to townhall.com, there was a systematic effort by the Obama campaign to suppress the military vote because they knew that most military votes would go against Obama…

Aiding Obama’s win was a devious suppression of the conservative vote. The conservative-leaning military vote has decreased drastically since 2010 due to the so-called Military Voter Protection Act that was enacted into law the year before. It has made it so difficult for overseas military personnel to obtain absentee ballots that in Virginia and Ohio there has been a 70% decrease in requests for ballots since 2008. In Virginia, almost 30,000 fewer overseas military voters requested ballots than in 2008. In Ohio, more than 20,000 fewer overseas military voters requested ballots. This is significant considering Obama won in both states by a little over 100,000 votes.

#22 According to the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, it appears that thousands of military votes from this election will never be counted at all.

So what do you think about all of this?

Do you still believe that elections in America are fair and honest?

Some Thoughts to Consider

Prior to the recent election, a pastor Mike Ross provided a post with very clear insight and a perspective every Christian should consider. He titled his post “Between Washington and Heaven,” and based his remarks from Ecclesiastes 8:1-15

He raised the question, “what does this sermon mean – practically speaking – for us today?” Now that the election is over, for those of us of faith that hoped for a change in the posture and direction of America, we might ask the same question. Let me rewrite some of  this pastor’s suggestions.

FIRST, don’t loose faith or hope because of the 2012 election. The President and his administration cannot fix things. Only God can do that. Our peace in Christ doesn’t come from an election, it comes from God.

SECOND, don’t be too hard on the men and women in government. Their task is without human solutions. They face an impossible task of managing the affairs of a fallen humanity. Often they endeavor to keep evil at bay when often their policies are filled with the very evil they seek to address. They often get it wrong.

THIRD, Trust God and continue to do what you believe to be right. Man has never proved to be the source of correcting his own colossal mess, only God is capable of solutions, not governments. Obey God and leave the rest to Him.

FOURTH, Live with integrity, be honest and be eternally-minded in your perspective. What happens in Washington D.C. is always temporal; what happens in the City of God is eternal. Get a grip on reality.

FIFTH, God’s people will not take back America. If God decides he wants America for His own, He’ll take it by the power of His own Holy Spirit which will bring a great moral reformation and spiritual revival the likes of which have never been seen in history. But this will be temporary at best. America is not the Kingdom of God.

SIXTH, Live your life faithfully, fulfilling your sacred duties to family, work, church, and country. Living this out means that you will Work hard, Love your family, support your church, exercise your civic rights and fulfill your civic duties – vote your beliefs.

SEVENTH, Focus your attention and resources on winning the hearts of children to the Lord. This will determine how they work, how they marry, how they live and vote for the next 80+ years of their precious lives.

God will sort out everything else, even though things that seem to go against God’s expressed interests and His revealed will. God still reigns!

A Return to Our Roots

This site was created for the purpose of educating American about the threat and inroads of Radical Islam. It is not a site that is connected with the national organization Act for America, but is supportive in every way including financial. Act for America is the premier group that targets our legislators at both the national and state levels. Their purpose is to educate our national leaders, provide grass root support for bills that protect against the inroads of Radical Islam. I commend the work of Brigitte Gabriel and the work of her organization with hundreds of local chapters around the country. You can find Act for America on this link.

Now that this recent election cycle is history, this site will return to the reasons for which it was created. There will be an occasional political post, but the major body of material will be articles seeking to inform about the threat of Radical Islam.

The article below posted by Guy Rodgers, Executive Director of Act for America is an excellent example of what we shall be sharing. We welcome  you to this site.

Following in the footsteps of our founding Fathers

by Guy Rodgers, Exec. Director of Act for America

Would you do me the favor of taking a few minutes to read this email all the way to the end?

Yesterday we received an email in response to the email I sent out on Wednesday entitled “What now?”

The person emailing us expressed concern that the three fact statements in my Wednesday email regarding the Obama administration were “polarizing.” The person sending it urged that, instead of criticizing the Obama administration, we work with the administration to resolve these issues.

Without a doubt the person who emailed us was sincere and heartfelt, which I can understand, given how combative the presidential campaign was. It is a worthy aspiration to hope that somehow people can come together and work toward a mutually satisfactory resolution.

Unfortunately, for nearly four years, the Obama administration, in virtually every way possible, has made it clear that it has a perspective and position on radical Islam that it is unwilling to modify, even in the slightest.

Here are just a few examples:

1) Attorney General Eric Holder’s exchange with House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith. Rep. Smith asked Holder repeatedly if “radical Islam” COULD have been a motive for many of the homegrown terrorists we had arrested. Holder literally tied himself in rhetorical knots trying to avoid answering.

2) John Brennan, President Obama’s top counterterrorism advisor, has repeatedly dismissed any notion that “jihad” refers to violence against non-Muslims or that Muslims, who refer to themselves as “jihadists,” should be characterized that way. Brennan’s position is that jihad only refers to a personal striving to be a good Muslim. This may be appealing to Western sensibilities but it’s not the way jihad is characterized in the vast majority of passages in the Qur’an and the most authoritative hadith.

3) In the 9/11 commission report, the terms “jihadist,” “jihad,” “Muslim,” and “Islam,” appeared a total of 625 times. In the Obama administration’s 2009 “National Intelligence Strategy” report, those terms did not appear once. They were completely stripped out of our intelligence assessment.

4) The Pentagon report that examined the Ft. Hood massacre did not include a single reference to jihad, radical Islam, or any other related term in the body of the report. Instead, it characterized the attack as “workplace violence.” This in spite of the fact that Nidal Hasan’s behavior and words in the years leading up to the attack, as well as his shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, leave no doubt he saw himself as a jihadist. To this day the Obama administration refuses to characterize this attack as a terrorist act. The stubborn refusal by the Obama administration to acknowledge what the vast majority of Americans know to be true is, frankly, breathtaking.

5) Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley was publicly reprimanded by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after Muslim organizations, several of which are connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, complained about a course Lt. Col. Dooley taught at the Joint Forces Staff College.

6) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been actively leading the State Department support of UN Resolution 16/18, the latest effort by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to get the UN to support a ban on any speech deemed critical of Islam. This resolution is a direct assault on our first amendment right of free speech.

7) As I stated in my Wednesday email, the Obama White House has opened its doors to numerous Muslims who are leaders of or connected to Muslim Brotherhood affiliated organizations.

I could provide many other examples, the most recent of which would be the Obama administration’s demonstrably false claim that an obscure film on YouTube triggered the assault on our embassy in Cairo and our consulate in Benghazi.

The course set by this administration regarding radical Islam could not be clearer. It is a dangerous course that is compromising our national security and chilling American free speech. What’s more, the administration has rebuffed every effort to persuade it to change that course.

I wish this were not the case, but all the wishing in the world won’t change the reality.

What, then, should ACT! for America do? Should we be silent so as not to appear “polarizing?”

I can assure you of this. If a Republican administration had charted this course, and had shown no willingness to modify its course, we would be exposing it just as we are doing now with respect to the Obama administration.

The reason is that this is not a matter of political parties, Republican or Democrat. The intent is not to be “polarizing.” As Brigitte Gabriel says so often, national security is not a “Republican” issue or a “Democratic” issue, it’s an “American issue.”

Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to report the facts and the truth. America must become aware of what the Obama administration is doing to compromise our national security and our right to free speech.

If we fail to expose this agenda, we are derelict in our duty as Americans and we are compromising the ACT! for America mission. What’s more, we would not be keeping faith with the countless Americans who have served and sacrificed in our Armed Forces so we could enjoy the blessings of safety and freedom.

We welcome Americans of all political stripes into ACT! for America. I can tell you that this is the most diverse coalition of people working for a common cause I’ve ever seen in my 25+ years in politics. For example, I have been in ACT! for America meetings where a lesbian and an evangelical Christian both spoke up about how they were supporting the ACT! for America effort. How often does that happen in the world of politics?

Having said that, if it’s “polarizing” to expose a truth as obvious and as dangerous as the Obama administration’s position on radical Islam, then we will choose to tell the truth. We will choose to follow in the footsteps of courageous founding fathers like John Adams, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and Sam Adams, whose words and deeds in the cause of liberty were criticized by some as “polarizing.”

The stakes are too high, and the American landscape is too littered with political correctness, for us to choose any other path.

Yours for a safe and free America,

Guy Rodgers

The Cross Is the Ultimate Victory

It is providential that Catholics recognize this Election Year as the Year of Faith.

An election like Nov. 6 can cause a great deal of discouragement. The results were practically a worse-case scenario for the most fundamental building blocks of society: The right to life, religious liberty and the family. The economy could well be a fourth block since without fiscal stability no nation can endure

In such a moment we need to remind ourselves that Jesus Christ has only one modus operandi: The cross.

His narrative begins with his birth in a humble place. Like many today he walked the path and lived the life of a refugee one step ahead of a murderous king. In his final moments he is dragged from his fleeing apostles and crucified like a common thief.

The letters of St. Paul documents a Church immersed in fights and sins, subjects that play a major role in his letters. The faithful sprinkled across the journeys of St. Paul began to be tortured and martyrdom became the norm for Christ’s followers. The long march of heresies that denied the very identity and deity of Christ followed this all too quickly. In 1054 AD, the Church was torn apart by human pettiness during this Great Schism. The west very quickly lost high quality arts, education, decent living standards and formal religious cohesion. These were the dark ages. About 500 years later, an overbearing, arrogant and worldly Church would get torn apart again and again because like the Church of Laodicea she had been bitten by the bug of complacency, satisfied with herself.

Over the years, powerful patriots of the faith have advanced or allowed terrible evils that the majority of the faithful have denounced: simony, slavery, and various other atrocities, up to and including genocide and abortion. From Peter’s betrayal to the present, from the days when Judas sold Christ to the days when Christians sold slaves, the story of the church is a long sick tale of sin.

But, it is worthy to remember; the Church isn’t the sum of its failures and sins. A wise man once said, “The Church is the sum of its sins plus grace, which is to say it is an institution always being dragged back from the brink of failure and handed victories by God.”

What is it that Christians can declare with conviction? Understanding that the Church is the sum of its sins plus grace, we must also declare with devotion, the real history of the Church is the history of God’s people and love. At every encroachment in that story of sin, the Church was also a multinational organization transforming the world through love. A Catholic writer speaks for us well when he said, “We invented hospitals, schools — and science, and principles of human justice. We created works of stunning beauty with pens, brushes, chisels and musical instruments. Our scriptures and our sacraments built families that brought cheer and comfort to a world that had often lacked them.”

After the Nov. 6 election of 2012 many may feel like the forces of secularism have finally triumphed in America, and the land of the free has morphed into something that would no longer be recognized by our founding fathers.

The truth is far from such a pessimistic shroud.

I have been reading a bit of Catholic history of late and two Popes are men we may provide some critical perspective. A respected Catholic writer suggests the following:

Just ask Pope John Paul II what it looks like for the forces of secularism to triumph. Murderous Nazis — only to be replaced by Communists for decades, overran his nation.

Or ask Pope Benedict XVI what it was like to live under aggressive secularizers — Nazis euthanized his Down Syndrome cousin and his family had to move several times because his father opposed them. The Nazis were replaced by a new Germany that before long would deny the unborn the right to life and succeed in marginalizing the faith.

Were there lessons these two men learned from watching the constant triumph of secularism over Catholics, Lutherans (and the larger church) in their time?

We can and must believe, with the late Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI told Americans in 2008, “that God is preparing a new springtime for Christianity.”

If that sounds naive, remember who is saying it.

It is absolutely providential that this Election Year is celebrated by a large segment of the church as the Year of Faith. Our spiritual leaders need to call for us to do what every other generation of Christians has done: Turn to Christ in our hour of need, and carry his cross through death to resurrection.

Christ’s modus operandi is always the same: He loses battles, and then wins wars.

A Final Note: There is a bit of pain for the need to honor and reference our Catholic brethren to the extent I have in this piece, but I do so because of their stand in this recent election. As a church;

  • They determined to stand for their understanding of God’s law rather than capitulate to our decadent culture,
  • They preached from their pulpits and created the finest videos on issues of morality understanding they would loose some,
  • They spoke with a clear voice for the sanctity of life, believing the right of the unborn is greater than a woman’s right to choose,
  • They spoke for the clear teaching for God’s plan for marriage and the family,
  • They made their case that it is not all right, nor is it moral for US to be forced by the U.S. government to provide contraceptive material and devices to young unmarried college students,
  • They rallied against the government support of Planned Parenthood and in behalf of the 58,000,000 innocent unborn who never had that right to choose.

And with all the power and influence of the Roman church, we elected a president that would support all of the above and rejected a pretty decent man who supports all of the above. In this election there were 3,000,000 less votes for Romney than in 2008 for McCain. For those of us who would have preferred to see a different result, the irony is, there would have been a different result if evangelical Christians had voted on issues of morality, but that isn’t likely ever to happen. I suspect in our flavor of faith we will continue to be concerned about people getting upset. And that concern always trumps the question, “what does God have to say about this?”

People of faith ask all the wrong questions about candidates. The popularity polls should never be the criteria for electing leaders. The question for us should always be, “what does this candidate believe about those issues God has clearly spoken?”

Unfortunately the culture has come to formulate the theology of the church, not the Word given by God. Because we are a pluralistic nation, we are forced to accept on occasion, the lesser and miss what otherwise would be God’s will. When speaking to Christians the Apostle Paul had something to say about this in warning us today. “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its mold.” Rom. 12:2 Phillips

Yes, I am not overcome with defeat, but I will celebrate with my Catholic brethren, the year of Faith
